Facebook

Facebook provides several options for plugins on their Facebook Plugins page: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins. Many of these are currently in use on Higher Logic sites. Additionally, a dedicated User Control for establishing a Facebook "Like" button has been developed for use on any webpages with a dedicated Page Code.

The "Facebook Likebox" is one of many Facebook plugins that can be established by a Global Admin. Installation instructions, listed below, are very similar for other Facebook plugins. Refer to the Facebook-provided documentation on the link above for more options that can be installed using similar steps

Likebox

The Facebook Likebox is the most inclusive plugin offered by Facebook. With its installation on a page a user will see the options to sign up, log in, "like" the content, see a recent feed, and see a list of those who "like" the item. Many sites have the Facebook Likebox established on the home pages of websites.

Instructions

From the Navigation Page, take the following steps:

  1. Select the Page Folder of the page on which the Facebook Like button and Activity Feed are to appear. The name of the page, next to the Page Folder, will appear in a light-blue box.
  2. Add a new Content Item by clicking "New" on the right-hand, Content side. This will Open the Enter/Edit Content Page for that new Content Item.
  3. Name the Content Item as you wish in the top-most field.
  4. Scroll to page bottom to the HTML Editor. Select the HTML Tab below the editor window.
  5. With the HTML Tab selected, paste the code accessed through this file in the HTML Editor (between the "###" not including the "###")

  6. Replace the 12345678910 with the eleven-digit code of your Facebook page. The easiest place to find this is in the URL of many links to your Facebook page.
  7. Click the Design Tab, next to the HTML Tab, to ensure the content is rendering as desired.
  8. Click "save".

This code has been optimized for layout within a column of a 3-column Page Layout. Adjust the width in the code to meet your layout needs. For more information and options, see the Facebook Likebox page.

Facebook Like User Control

hlcommon:FacebookLike

The Facebook Like User Control allows any Mastersite or Microsite webpage with a unique Page Code to show a button allowing users to "Like" that page.  This allows numerous kinds of web content, including individual Calendar Items, Blogs, and Library Entries, to have a "Like" button atop their webpage.

Instructions

  1. Ensure the webpage you want to apply this to has its own Page Code. Learn how to establish Page Codes.
  2. On the Navigation Page, select the Page Folder of the page on which the Like button to appear. The name of the page, next to the Page Folder, will appear in a light-blue box.
  3. Add a new Content Item by clicking "New" on the right-hand, Content side. This will Open the Enter/Edit Content Page for that new Content Item.
  4. Name the Content Item as you wish in the top-most field and unclick the Show Box so that the title does not show.
  5. Scroll to page bottom to the HTML Editor. Above the editor select the "User control" radio button. The HTML Editor will disappear and be replaced by fields to install a User Control.
  6. Paste hlcommon:FacebookLike in the User Control box.
  7. Click "save"

The "like" button will appear atop the webpage and keep a running count of Facebook users who utilize it.
