Displaying Events

Last Updated: Jan 20, 2016 03:24PM EST

A website's primary display of events through a dedicated page is achieved with the Calendar in list view (the grid view is no longer supported). A shorter list of upcoming events can be displayed on any page through a Landing Page Content Item. Both of these multi-event displays provide links to a page dedicated to providing all information about a single event - an event description page.

Calendar Page

The primary display of events in a list format is provided with the cm:Calendar User Control. Sorting tools allow users to zero-in on the events of interest to them and see past events.

Configuration Options for cm:Calendar Calendar Display

Landing Page Content Item

A Content Item featuring a short list of upcoming events can be included on any page through ws:EventList. Content Items based on this User Control are often displayed on organization Home Pages, Community Microsite Home Pages and Community Landing Pages. When used on Community Microsites and Community Landing Pages internal logic limits the default display to only show events attributed to the Community for that site or page.

Configuration through Parameters allows multiple display and presentation options. Multiple calendar instances can be established to display only specific Community events or events of a specific Event Type. Event Branding, including the inclusion of embedded videos, is achieved through the HTML description and logo upload for each event.

Event Description Page

The Event Description Page includes multiple Content Items to display the various aspects of an event. The information displayed for each of these Content Items is determined by inputs on the Enter/Edit Event page accessed through the "Edit this event" button on the Event Description Page or when adding a new event. The adding of Parameters to the Content Items on this page is not recommended.  However, the establishment of a new page layout and moving of Content Items to achieve a desired display is possible.
