Templates are an ideal way for your organization to apply a consistent look to your Higher Logic Thrive Marketing Enterprise (Thrive Marketing Enterprise) messages. Templates simultaneously eliminate duplicated efforts and reduce message-creation time while ensuring that consistency.
EXAMPLE: Rather than having to continually create one-off email messages (weekly, monthly, quarterly) that contain the same images and similar content in the same locations with the same font styles and borders, create a template that saves your design customizations and then automatically applies your customizations when the template is used as the foundation of a message.
If you will be sending messages (e.g., welcome outreach, member renewals, calls to action) on a regular basis, a set of templates is just what you need!
Article overview
In Thrive Marketing Enterprise, the various types of templates are stored in different areas of the Admin interface to distinguish them by purpose.
This article describes:
- the various types of templates in your account;
- template locations; and
- how to manage your templates.
Pre-designed & custom templates
Higher Logic loads every account with a set of pre-designed templates. The default designs of these templates are based on themes (such as holidays and various industries) and reflect the latest best practices and recommendations.
- You can use these pre-designed templates as-is or customize them to have them more closely align with your organization's brand.
- You can also create your own "from scratch" templates to truly personalize your messages.
Templates as Enterprise Assets
Templates are Enterprise Assets in Thrive Marketing Enterprise and, as such, are subject to the standard conditions of Enterprise permissions.
Even as an Admin, if you don't have Enterprise permissions for another user's assets, that user's assets (including templates) won't be available for you to use.
To learn about Enterprise Assets and how to manage them, see the Enterprise Assets section of the knowledge base.
Template Library
The Template Library page houses pre-designed templates that you can use and customize for your messages. The page is accessible to all account Admins.
NOTE: Typically, you won't have to access this page, unless you want to add a template to the Your Templates list on the template-selection page.
- Navigate to Messages > Assets > Template Library.
The templates are organized into categories.
On this page you can:
- Click the + and – icons to expand and collapse the categories.
- Click Preview to open a preview of the template in a new popup window.
- Check the Add to defaults box (and click Go below the list) to add the template to the Your Templates list on the template-selection page.
NOTE: You cannot navigate to the template-selection page. It is accessed only as part of the message-creation process, and is where you choose a template as the foundation for the message.
Manage your templates
The Manage Templates page lists your account's Working and Live templates.
TIP: Live templates are those that have been published. Working templates are in progress.
This is where you go in order to manage (create, edit, publish) your templates.
- Navigate to Messages > Assets > Templates.
The management options on the Manage Templates page are described in detail in Manage Your Templates.
Your published templates
This page houses your account's published (i.e., Live) templates.
- Navigate to Messages > Preview > Preview Template.
On this page you can:
- Scroll through the list and click Preview to open a preview of that template in a new tab.
- Click-and-drag templates to re-position them in the list.
NOTE: Templates are subject to Enterprise rules. Only the templates that you are authorized to use will display.
Template permissions
The Manage Template Permissions page is where you manage which of your Admins can use which templates for messages.
Template permissions can be configured by login (i.e., Admin user) or by template.
- Navigate to Settings > Permissions > Templates by Login.
To learn how to set and manage these permissions, see Template Permissions.
Template FAQs
Below are some common questions that arise when working with templates.
What's the difference between Live templates and Working templates?
Live templates are those that have been published. Working templates are in progress.
If I save a template that I've created, is it available for use?
No. The template's status will be set to Working. Templates have to be published in order to be available for use (Live).
If I edit a Live template and save it, is it available for use with those edits?
No. The template's status will be set to Working. Templates have to be published in order to be available for use (Live).
- The pre-edited version of the template, however, remains Live and is still available for use.
Further, the Messages > Preview > Preview Template page continues to display the template but in its pre-edited state. When the (edited) template is published, the newly-edited version will display on the page instead.
