The Archive and Search Index page is where you manage the websites that are associated with your Higher Logic community (i.e., your microsites).
On this page, you can:
- archive and re-activate microsites and
- enable and disable whether a microsite is indexed.
Microsite indexing determines whether the microsite's content can be discovered and surfaced by search tools. When indexing is disabled for a microsite, the microsite's content is effectively hidden from search results.
Access your list of Microsites
To access your list of microsites:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click Admin.
- Navigate to Pages > Sites > Archive/Search.
The Archive and Search Index page opens to the Show All view and alphabetically lists all your microsites.
- The number of microsites displays above the list.
- The names of your Active microsites are links; click the name to open the microsite in a new tab.
- Use the navigation below the list to access other pages.
- The main site is indicated by the small Main Site icon under its name.
- You cannot manage the main site on this page; it's checkboxes are disabled.
Filter the list
If you have a lot of microsites, you can filter the list to display a select few. You can filter the list to display only those sites:
- that have been indexed,
- that have not been indexed,
- that are active, or
- that have been archived.
Archive a microsite
IMPORTANT: Before you archive a microsite, review its connections to, from, and within other communities and any other dependencies that might be lost. Ensure that any links to the archived microsite are updated so that users are properly directed.
A check mark in the Active Site column indicates that the microsite is active.
- To archive a microsite, uncheck this box.
NOTE: When a microsite is archived, direct visits to its URL will either redirect to the Home page of the main site or display a 404 error. These behaviors confirm that the microsite is no longer active and its content is no longer accessible.
- If you archive a microsite while in the Show All list, it remains in the list.
- If you filter the list to Active Sites and archive a microsite, the list automatically refreshes and the microsite no longer displays.
- An archived microsite displays in the Show All list and the Archived Sites list.
- In either list, re-check the box to re-activate the microsite.
NOTE: If you archive a microsite, its indexing is automatically turned off. If you re-activate an archived microsite and want it to be indexed, you have to also check the Index for Search box. The microsite will be included in the next re-indexing.
TIP: After you archive a microsite, test its URL to ensure that it redirects appropriately or displays a 404 error.
Index a microsite
A check mark in the Index for Search column indicates that the microsite is indexed for web searches.
NOTE: Indexing applies to active microsites only. If you archive a microsite, its indexing is automatically turned off. If you activate an archived microsite and want it to be indexed, you have to also check the Index for Search box.
- To remove indexing from a microsite, uncheck this box.
To re-index the microsite, choose Sites Not Indexed in the Show All dropdown, and check the microsite's Index for Search box.
- If you remove indexing from a microsite while in the Show All list, it remains in the list.
- If you filter the list to Indexed Sites and remove indexing from a microsite, the list automatically refreshes and the microsite no longer displays.
- An un-indexed microsite displays in the Show All list and the Sites Not Indexed list.
- In either list, re-check the box to re-index the microsite.
