OptOut profile fields allow your contacts to indicate that they want stop receiving specific types of messages that are sent from your account.
The benefits of this self-management aspect are:
- it gives control to your contacts to manage what they are sent and are not sent and
- it is a better option for your organization than risking your contacts "globally unsubscribing" from all your account messages.
OptOut profile field notes
When contacts click an opt-out link in a message, it takes them to a data input form. There, the contacts can (typically) check boxes to indicate which types of messages they want to receive.
The approach of your data input form can be such that contacts either "opt in to" or "opt out of" the various types of messages.
NOTE: The opt-in/opt-out activity is not tracked. If you want to keep track of this activity, use an Interest as the basis for your opt-in/opt-out management. See Opt-Outs as Interests.
Create an OptOut profile field
- Access the Admin interface.
- Navigate to Contacts > Profile Fields.
- Click the plus sign to the right of the page title.
- Select OptOut from the dropdown.
- Complete the form to configure your profile field.

Description | (Optional) You can include a description that provides context about the field. |
- Click Save to create your OptOut profile field.
- Review the list and verify that your new Profile Field is listed.
