The Published Mailing tab of the Mailing Activity Report provides a preview of the mailing.
The preview gives you an idea of how the mailing displays when opened in a stand-alone/desktop email client, such as Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird.
TIP: If you're viewing the MAR for an A/B Test mailing, the tab uses the plural, Published Mailings, and offers a dropdown in the upper right that you can use to switch between previews of the mailings.
This article describes how to access the Published Mailing tab and its two features:
- Web version preview
- Heat map
Access the Mailing Activity Report
New Admin Experience
- Navigate to Messages > List.
- Click the down arrow to the right of the page title and select Sent.
- Click a message to select it, and then click Track.
Classic Admin interface
You can access the Mailing Activity Report for a mailing in either of two ways:
- On the Home page, in the Recently Sent Mailings area, click the name of a mailing
- Navigate to Mailings > View page
Then...
- Click the Sent tab and hover over the menu icon immediately to the left of a mailing.
- Select Report from the list.
View in your web browser
In the upper right of the message-display area, click View Web Version to preview (in a new tab) the mailing in your web browser.
TIP: This is a really convenient way to preview and compare the web-based versions of both mailings of an A/B Test mailing.
View the Heat Map
The heat map is a great feature because you can quickly see the link-click activity of the mailing.
The mailing displays with "heat bubbles" which indicate:
- where links are located in the mailing and
- how often (based on bubble color) they were clicked.
A Heatmap bar displays above the mailing. It indicates the total number of clicks for all the links in the mailing.
- Check/uncheck the box to show/hide the heat bubbles on the mailing content.
- The warm colors (red, yellow) indicate the links with more clicks, while the cool colors (blue, green) indicate the links with fewer clicks.
NOTE: The Heatmap bar and heat bubbles display only if the mailing has links and at least one link has been clicked. If the mailing has not received any link-clicks, the Heatmap bar appears only briefly, then disappears.
- Hover on a heat bubble to display click-count information.
Use the Heatmap results
If a link — that you consider important and want recipients to click — is not getting the click activity that you expect, consider that its location in the mailing might not be ideal.
