While your organization's stories and other messages are built into templates through Message Content areas, static Text layouts are an equally important part of your message. These text areas are part of the template itself, so they'll appear in every message that uses the template.
Add a Text layout
On the Design > Build tab, expand the Static Elements category and drag and drop one of the text-based types onto the canvas.
The Text Properties panel opens on the left and is described in the next section.

You can add and manage (format, edit) a Text layout's content in the Text Properties panel.

Text-based layouts
All text layouts are located under the Static Elements category. Let's take a look at the three default text layouts that you can add to your template.
Image with Text
This layout contains distinct text and image areas.
- The text can be added and managed in the Text Properties panel.
- The image can be added and managed in the Image Properties panel.
Additionally, you can configure the properties of the layout on the Image with Text Properties panel.
Property | Description |

Use default background | By default, this layout uses the color that has been set in the Template Background field on the Theme tab. Uncheck the box to open the color picker to select a different background color. |
Border | By default, this layout does not have a border. Check the Border box to automatically apply the following default border properties: solid, 1px, black (#000000), all sides. Or, you can set:

Banner | Check the box to extend the layout to the edges of the message body. |
Padding | Accept the default of no padding or click the dropdown to set the amount of padding for the top, bottom, left, and/or right of this layout. The selections are automatically applied. |
Banded Background | Accept the Default option to keep the layout within the message body. Click Banded to have the layout extend to the edges of the page. |
Vertical Align | Click the dropdown to set the vertical alignment (top, middle, or bottom). |
Text with Headline
This layout contains distinct text and heading areas.
- The text and the heading text can be added and managed in the Text Properties panel.

This layout contains only a text area.
- The text can be added and managed in the Text Properties panel.
