Volunteer roles help distinguish and reward volunteers for their service: For each role, you can define a points multiplier that determines the total points volunteers in that role earn for completing opportunities. This enables you to reward your volunteers who do exceptional work and those who have been active in the program for a long time.
EXAMPLE: In the example below, Ryan was assigned a role with a 4 point multiplier. Because the opportunity gives 4 base points, Ryan would receive 20 total points for completing it (4 base points + 16 role points = 20).
To manage your roles:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click Admin.
- Navigate to Programs > Volunteer > Roles.
Manage Volunteer Roles
In addition to editing and deleting existing roles, you can click Create to add a new one. Just give it a name, an Integration Code, assign a points multiplier, and set it to active or inactive.
NOTE: Use the points multiplier to control how many points volunteers earn when completing opportunities.
Assign a Role
Each created role can be assigned to volunteers from an opportunity. To do so:
- Navigate to the Admin > Programs > Volunteer > List page.
- Select Manage Applicants from the desired opportunity's Actions menu.
- Click the checkmark icon(s) next to the volunteer(s) you want to assign the role to.
- Select Manage Roles of Selected from the enabled menu below.
- In the resulting dialog, you have two options:
- Assign the role to everyone in the list (i.e., confirmed volunteers);
- assign the role to only the individual(s) selected.
- Click Save.
The potential points for the volunteer(s) are updated to reflect the role's points multiplier.
EXAMPLE: In the example below, Ryan was assigned a role with a 4 point multiplier. Because the opportunity gives 4 base points, Ryan would receive 20 total points for completing it (4 base points + 16 role points = 20).
