If you are a Higher Logic customer who licenses our Microsites module, you should consider migrating to our latest community experience: Higher Logic Thrive.
Microsites tend to become inconsistent in their format over time.
When you migrate to a Thrive community, you can create a "clean" microsite model (which becomes your template for creating microsites). This is a great opportunity to review your existing model and to make any changes that you want or that you feel are necessary.
You can review and consider changing:
- your organization's branding and appearance.
- the name of your microsite, and
- the navigation of your microsites.
Seize this opportunity to re-establish consistency across these microsite elements and across microsites overall.
NOTE: Higher Logic recommends that you carefully record and track migration activities, such as changes to your microsite URLs and names.
Benefits of a clean microsite model with Thrive
When you're working with a clean microsite model and planning it's layout and design for when it serves as the template for your microsites, you should consider the following points and incorporate them into your design plans.
- Consistent experience - Make sure that your model provides a consistent experience (i.e., the layout and look; the navigation) for your microsite users.
- Future updates - Consider future updates and enhancements as the Thrive Community product — and your community site with it — evolves. By having a model that has minimal customizations (e.g., custom code; custom layouts), you can:
- decrease the potential of issues and technical debt, and
- more quickly onboard new microsites and community groups in the future.
By following these best practices, you can achieve a smooth, modern, and maintainable microsite transition to Thrive, which results in a more sustainable and user-friendly online community.
