Super Admins can lock a community's:
- top-level navigation,
- individual pages,
- and any content on a page to prevent Site and Microsite Admins from editing them.
This enables your organization to keep the navigation structure and/or content of your community unaltered by other admins, which is particularly useful if you license Microsites and want to preserve consistency across each of them.
EXAMPLE: If your organization wants all of its chapter Microsites to have the same navigation structure, a Super Admin could lock your Microsite Template's top-level navigation to prevent navigation changes to any microsite by any Microsite Admins. Or, you could lock an individual Microsite if there's a specific site you want to prevent changes to.
Lock top-level navigation
A community's top-level navigation refers to its main navigation bar (shown below) and any Top or Bottom links.
From the community you want to manage:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click Site Options > Site Setup (right click for a new tab).
- Click the Admin sub-tab.
- Toggle Lock Top-Level Navigation? to YES.
- Click Finish at the bottom of the page to save this change.
Back in the CMS, you'll now notice lock icons next to each page, indicating Site and Microsite Admins cannot edit them.
Lock an individual page
From the community you want to manage:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click (or right click for a new tab) Edit Navigation.
- Select the page you want to lock. Its Properties are displayed on the right.
- Check the Super Admins Only box.
- Click Publish at the bottom of the page to make this change live. You'll now notice a lock icon next to the page in the navigation, indicating Site and Microsite admins can no longer make updates to this page OR its content.
Lock a Content Item or Widget
From the community you want to manage:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click (or right click for a new tab) Edit Navigation.
- Select the page containing the content you want to lock, and then click Edit.
- Select the Content Item or Widget. Its Properties are displayed on the right.
- Check the Super Admins Only box.
- Click Publish at the bottom of the page to make this change live. Now, Site and Microsite Admins cannot edit it.
NOTE: Unlike locked pages, there is no visible indicator that a piece of content is locked.
