- Explains how Super Admins can lock a site's top-level navigation, individual pages, and content on those pages to prevent editing by Site Admins and Microsite Admins.
- Provides steps to lock a community's top-level navigation, which is useful to ensure a consistent navigation structure across Microsites.
Locking content in sites and communities
It's important that your site maintains some degree of consistency in the navigation structure and content. To ensure this, Super Admins might want to prevent Site Admins and Microsite Admins from editing some aspects of the site and its communities.
NOTE: This is particularly important if you license Microsites and want to preserve consistency across each of them.
Super Admins can prevent Site Admins and Microsite Admins making unwanted changes by "locking:"
- the top-level navigation,
- individual pages, and
- the content on a page.
EXAMPLE: If your organization wants all of its chapter Microsites to have the same navigation structure, your Super Admin could lock your Microsite Template's top-level navigation to prevent changes to any microsite by any Microsite Admins. Or, you could lock an individual Microsite if you want to prevent changes to its content.
Lock the top-level navigation
A community's top-level navigation refers to its main navigation bar (shown below) and any Top or Bottom links.
In a community:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click Site Options > Site Setup (right click for a new tab).
- Click the Admin sub-tab.
- Toggle Lock Top-Level Navigation? to YES.
- Click Finish at the bottom of the page to save this change.
In the CMS, notice the lock icons. These indicate that Site Admins and Microsite Admins cannot edit elements of the top-level navigation.
Lock an individual page
In the community you want to manage:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click (or right click for a new tab) Edit Navigation.
- In the CMS, select the page you want to lock. Its Properties display in a panel on the right.
- Check the Super Admins Only box.
- Click Publish at the bottom of the page to make this change live.
A lock icon displays next to the page in the navigation. This indicates that Site Admins and Microsite Admins cannot make changes to this page or its content.
Lock a Content Item or widget
In the community you want to manage:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click (or right click for a new tab) Edit Navigation.
- Click the ellipsis icon of the page that contains the content that you want to lock, and then click Edit.
- In Page Designer, click to select the Content Item or widget. Its Properties display in a panel on the right.
- Check the Super Admins Only box.
- Click Publish at the bottom of the page to make this change live.
Now, Site Admins and Microsite Admins cannot make changes to this content.
NOTE: Content Items and widgets do not display a "locked" indicator.
