How often is a Target Group queried for new contacts to add to a campaign flow?
Thrive Marketing Professional performs a Target Group sync every hour, at five minutes before the hour.
The flow itself runs once per minute, and if there are additional manual Target Group syncs, it could pick up others at that time as well.
To answer this question, first consider the following scenario: You've activated a campaign and assigned an integrated Target Group using the Add Subscribers Once and Over Time OR Add Subscribers Over Time option.
Are there suppression rules to prevent a contact flowing multiple times through one campaign?
Yes, all contact records are associated with a unique email address, and an email address can go through a campaign only once.
NOTE: An email address can, however, go through a campaign several times in test mode.
How do I edit an Active campaign?
You have to deactivate a campaign in order to edit it.
- Navigate to Campaigns > List and click the Active tab.
- Hover on the icon to the left of the campaign name and from the hover menu, select Deactivate.
The campaign moves to the In Progress tab where you can edit it.
Notes
- This places the campaign on "pause;" no one can move forward within the campaign flow until the campaign is reactivated.
- When you complete your edits and reactivate the campaign, Thrive Marketing Professional remembers your original campaign target group settings.
- You have to re-select the Start and Stop dates and times.
NOTE: If you used the Add Subscribers Over Time option, you have to reactivate the campaign using the Add Subscribers Once and Over Time option in order to ensure that you capture any subscribers who were added to the campaign while it was deactivated.
Do I have to deactivate a campaign to edit one of its mailings?
This depends on what you want to edit.
Edit only the Online Version of the mailing
- You do NOT have to deactivate a campaign if you want to edit (only) the Online Version of the mailing. (If you don't deactivate the campaign, your edits are not applied to the message that is actually sent to recipients.)
Edit the actual published version of the mailing
- You DO have to deactivate a campaign if you want to edit the actual published version of the mailing; that is, the mailing that is sent to your contacts.
- After you edit and save the mailing, you must reactivate the campaign.
- You can edit a campaign mailing on either the Flow tab or the Mailings tab of the Campaign Report, as described in the sections below.
Edit on the Flow tab
Refer to the information directly above to determine whether you should deactivate the campaign.
- If the campaign is Active, you can edit only the Online Version of a campaign mailing.
- If the campaign has been deactivated, you can edit the "published" version of a campaign mailing.
To edit a campaign mailing:
- On the Flow tab of the Campaign Report, find the campaign step with the mailing that you want to edit.
- Click the step to open the Send Mail Options window.
- Click Edit Mailing to edit the mailing.
- Save the mailing and reactivate the campaign.
Edit on the Mailings tab
Refer to the information directly above to determine whether you should deactivate the campaign.
- If the campaign is Active, you can edit only the Online Version of a campaign mailing.
- If the campaign has been deactivated, you can edit the "published" version of a campaign mailing.
To edit a campaign mailing:
- On the Mailings tab of the Campaign Report, find the campaign mailing that you want to edit.
- Hover on the icon to the left of the campaign name and from the hover menu, select Edit.
This opens the mailing in edit mode (Campaign Mailing Designer).
- Make the necessary changes and be sure to save the mailing.
NOTE: If you edit an active campaign mailing, the Mailing Activity Report (MAR) Options tab does not reflect your changes. However, all other data in the MAR reflect the edited version.
What happens to a campaign's workflow while it is deactivated?
When a campaign is deactivated, its workflow (as well as the time) continues. This is best illustrated with an example.
- A campaign has started and Mailing-One has been sent.
- Contacts who received Mailing-One are now in the first Wait step (which is set at five hours).
- You realize that Mailing-Two requires edits, so you deactivate the campaign to edit Mailing-Two.
- The campaign is deactivated for two hours while you edit Mailing-Two; then it is reactivated.
- The two hours of "deactivation" are factored into the five-hour Wait step, so Mailing-Two sends three hours after being reactivated.
If a Decide step is not followed by a Wait step, how are participants moved to the next step?
First: Campaign best practices indicate that a Wait step should always follow a Decide step.
- If a Decide step is not followed by a Wait step, campaign participants move immediately to the next step.
- If a Decide step is based on opens, clicks, or on belonging to a specified Target Group, and it is not followed by a Wait step, the Decide step will follow either the "not opened/clicked" path or the "not in the specified target group" path, as appropriate.
