An important part of the campaign-creation process is testing.
You should always have at least one person test the campaign – before publishing it to real contacts – and have them verify that all of the campaign Steps work as expected.
Campaign test notes
Testing a campaign is an investment of your time and the tester's time, but doing so is a recommended practice that gives you the chance to catch errors and issues before the campaign is "live;" it's a worthwhile investment to ensure campaign efficacy.
- You might have to put a tester through the campaign multiple times to verify all possible campaign paths.
- You can stop a test at any time by clicking Stop Test in the Flow tab (refer to View a test in progress, below).
- In test mode, each Wait Step defaults to being only ten minutes so that the tester can move quickly through the test.
- All other Steps are processed as designed as the tester moves through the campaign.
Test a campaign
NOTE: You can test In Progress campaigns only.
- Access the Admin interface.
- Navigate to Campaigns > List to access your campaigns.
- On the In Progress tab, hover over the menu icon to the left of the campaign you want to test and select Edit.
- In Campaign Designer, click the Test tab.
- Add testers in the Add or remove any email addresses field by:
-
- manually inputting (type or paste) their individual email addresses (one per line) OR...
- selecting a Test Group in the Choose a Test Group field to add the entire list of testers.
See Test Groups to learn how to create and how to use Test Groups.
- Click the Begin Test button at the bottom of the page. (If you have a lot of Test Groups, scroll to the bottom of the page to access the button.)
View a test in progress
- If a campaign is being tested, navigate back to the Campaigns > In Progress tab.
- Hover over the campaign's menu icon and select View Test.
The resulting test view page has two tabs:
- Flow displays each Step of the campaign, along with which testers are in which Step, indicated by number bubbles above the Steps (the image below shows one tester at the Stop Step).
- Subscribers lists each person testing the campaign, along with details such as whether they converted, the Step they're currently on, and when they started the test.
Additional options
- You can click Add Tester at the upper right to add testers. Alternatively, navigate back to Campaigns > In Progress tab, hover over the menu icon for a campaign being tested, and select Add Test Subscriber.
- This is also where you stop the test, via the STOP TEST button at the top.
NOTE: There is no confirmation upon clicking the STOP TEST button; the test is immediately stopped.
