In our efforts to maintain a high sender reputation standard of our system, the Higher Logic Thrive Marketing Professional (Thrive Marketing Professional) system "scrubs" or "invalidates" email addresses that the system processes upon upload.
Below are the rules we apply to the email addresses that the Thrive Marketing Professional system processes.
NOTE: Email addresses that enter the system received via an integration may not follow these same rules.
Valid characters
Valid characters for email addresses are upper- and lowercase letters (a–z, A–Z), numerals (0–9), and the following characters: ! # $ % & ' * + - / = ? ^ _ ` { | } and ~.
NOTE: The hyphen (-) is a valid character; the en dash (–) and em dash (—) are not.
Terminology
- Top-level Domain (TLD) - The last segment of the email address; it follows the dot (.). Common TLDs are .com, .org, and .edu. Other examples of TLDs are international TLDs, such as .au (Australia) and .ca (Canada).
- Local-part (of an email address) - The segment of the email address that precedes the @ symbol. User names are the most common examples of the local-part.
Scrub rules
Only one auto-correction is made on an email address:
- Remove any leading and trailing spaces
Email syntax validation
An email address will be marked as invalid upon upload if:
- It contains any special characters other than those listed in Valid characters, above.
- It contains HTML/XML tags
- There is more than one @ symbol
- There is not at least one @ symbol
- There is a double dot (e.g., john..doe@example.com, johndoe@example..com)
- It is missing the TLD (e.g., .com, .net, .au)
- It is missing the local portion (i.e., nothing before the @ symbol)
Role-based email addresses
Role-based email addresses are "generic" email addresses that are usually assigned to a mailing list or a position (i.e., a job title), rather than a person, in a company or organization. They occur in the local-part of the email address.
Email addresses will not be uploaded to the Thrive Marketing Professional system if the local-part contains any of the values listed below.
NOTE: To learn more, see Understand Role-based Email Addresses.
List of suppressed role address values
Below are the "role-based" email addresses that will be automatically suppressed by Thrive Marketing Professional if they precede the @ symbol.
