Is there third-party code, like Feathr, Pixel, Google Ads, AddThis, or Munchkin Code (done using HTML or Javascript) that you want to appear on every page across your Higher Logic site? You can accomplish this by:
- creating a page to host the code
- and "inserting" this page in your site's Header, Content, or Footer.
Let's walk through this process so you can learn how to display third-party content across your site.
Step 1 - Create page to house the third-party content
- In the Admin Toolbar, click (or right click for a new tab) Edit Navigation.
- Drag and drop the Add Page icon to an appropriate location in your site structure.
- Click the ... button and select Edit.
- Click the Properties tab.
- Fill out the Navigation Title, Page Code Name, and URL Name fields with appropriate names (for internal purposes only).
- Uncheck the Show Page Title box so the page's title doesn't display.
- Make sure the Visible in Navigation box is unchecked. (If it is checked, the page will display in the top navigation of your site.)
- Click the Build tab, and then drag and drop an HTML or JavaScript content type onto the Canvas.
- Click to select the HTML or JavaScript content type block, and then click Edit.
NOTE: Refer to the steps below that are applicable to the content type you've added (HTML or JavaScript).
If adding HTML
- Click the HTML button to display the Source code editor.
- Insert the third-party code.
- Click Ok to close the Source code editor.
- Click Save to close the Editing HTML popup.
- Click Publish to save and publish the page.
If adding JavaScript
NOTE: If pasting JavaScript code, do not include <script> tags; the system automatically adds <script> tags for you, so including them will cause an error.
- Click the dropdown and pick the option applicable to how you're inserting the JavaScript: either by entering a URL to the file OR embedding (pasting) the JavaScript code right in the editor.
- After you've either entered the URL or pasted the code, click Save to close the Editing JavaScript editor.
- Click Publish to save and publish the page.
Step 2 - Insert page in site Header, Content, or Footer
Now that your "dummy" page with the third-party content is ready, let's move on to inserting its code into the Header, Content, or Footer area of your site.
- In the Admin Toolbar, click Site Options > Site Setup (right click for a new tab).
- Click the Layout tab.
- Scroll down to Additional Site-wide Content.
TIP: If the Additional Site-wide Content area does not display, it might not be enabled. Refer to How to enable the Additional Site-wide Content, below, for information on how to enable it.
Here, you can choose to have the page code appear in the Header, Content, or Footer of your site, and in either the top or bottom of the content area.
NOTE: Higher Logic Thrive Community and Higher Logic Thrive Platform customers must use the Content option to load third-party code.
- Click the "Appearing at the..." dropdown for your target content area and select the page you created in Step 1.
- At the bottom of the page, click Finish to save your update.
How to enable the Additional Site-wide Content area
If, on the Layout tab, you do not see the Additional Site-wide Content area, you can enable it by using the following steps.
NOTE: Only Super Admins can perform these steps.
- At the top of the page, click the Admin tab. (This is to the left of the Layout tab.)
- Toggle the Additional Site-Wide Content option to Yes.
TIP: You can also click the dropdown to control which content areas (Header, Content, and Footer), display on the Layout tab.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Finish to save this change.
