When you are creating a campaign, a best practice is to resend campaign messages to participants who did not open an original message ("non-openers").
NOTE: Campaign messages, like other email messages, might have not been opened for any number of reasons. It's possible that a campaign participant did not receive a message, so it's a good idea to use the "resend message" feature as a fail-safe in such situations.
Original messages and resend messages
In the context of a campaign, an "original" message can be any of the Message steps, not necessarily the first message in the campaign.
The second (and third, etc.) messages should have their own "original" content and, because they might not be opened, should also have their own "resend messages."
Resend messages in campaigns
The message resend happens automatically and is the best way to ensure that a campaign message gets sent to non-openers. Resends should be used in all campaigns; starter kit and "from scratch" campaigns alike.
Campaign Starter Kits
Where appropriate, our Campaign Starter Kits are preconfigured with the recommended and necessary "re-send" Message steps.
TIP: Review the campaign's resend messages to make sure that they suit your campaign, and to customize them if necessary.
Blank campaigns
If you are creating your own campaign, you should configure resend messages for non-openers of the original message. The resend message should have:
- a new engaging subject but
- the same content as the original message. This is simplified by copying that message content, as described below.
Identify a resend message
Resend messages are connected to the red NO at the top of Decide steps.
Add a resend message
You can add a resend message to any campaign. You might have to add a resend message when:
- creating a Blank Campaign,
- editing a Blank Campaign, or
- editing a Campaign Starter Kit.
To add a resend message to a campaign:
- Add (click-drag-drop) a Message step to the canvas (you can position and connect it later).
- Click the step to configure it.
- On the Send Mail Options dialog:
-
- Specify an appropriate name for the step.
- Click the dropdown and select Copy Campaign Message.
-
- Click the Campaign and Mailing dropdowns to choose the message that will be resent.
NOTE: This should be an "original" message that is used in this campaign and which you want to resend.
-
- Click Copy.
A popup indicates that the campaign will be saved and you will be directed to Campaign Message Designer.
- Click Continue.
- Make the appropriate changes to the original message and, when you have finished, save your changes and click the Return to Campaign Designer button in the header of the designer.
In Campaign Designer, the message is now ready to be connected as a "resend message" to the red NO step at the top of a Decide step.
Edit a resend message
You can edit any resend message, whether in a starter kit campaign or one that you've created "from scratch."
- Click the Message step to open the Send Mail Options dialog.
- Click the Edit Mailing button. You are directed to Campaign Message Designer.
- Make the appropriate changes to the message and, when you have finished, save your changes and click the Return to Campaign Designer button in the header of the designer.
- In Campaign Designer, double-check the Message step's connections to make sure they are still in place.
- Save the campaign.
