This article describes how to test the personalization fields that are included in a template or a message.
If you have inserted personalization fields in a message, Higher Logic recommends that you use the Personalization Test feature, before sending the message, to:
- test the personalization functionality and
- ensure that the fields are populating as expected, including with any default values.
This gives you the opportunity to make any corrections or changes to the text of the message and/or the personalization fields before you send it.
To learn how to set and use default values for your personalizations, see Default values in the Personalization article.
Personalization Test feature
The Personalization Test feature gives you the opportunity to test the personalizations in one of your messages.
To test personalizations:
- Access the Admin interface and click the Communications tab above the search field.
- Navigate to Messages > List.
- Open a message in Message Designer.
- Click the Review Message tab.
- Scroll down to Personalization Test and click Run Test.
Upon completion, the test displays a list of contacts and the values (from their profiles) that will populate the personalization fields that are included in the message.
NOTE: A warning icon displays for personalization fields that do not have a value in the contact's profile. These fields are populated with the personalization's default value — if one has been defined for the personalization field — when the message is sent.
Check the Show recipients with missing personalization only box to view all contacts with at least one blank value.
- To search your contacts, enter a term in the search field and click search. The term displays in the header row and locates all fields that contain your search term.
- To remove the search term, click the X icon next to that term in the header row.
