If you've ever drafted a message, you probably spent time creating the content and then additional time deciding on how best to formatting the content for maximum impact. After all that effort, being able to copy that content would simplify and speed up creating similar messages in future.
In Message Designer, you can copy content layouts within Message Content areas (MCA) with the click of a button, which saves time and lets you re-purpose a content type you've already formatted (which is especially helpful if you prefer not to use custom layouts).
Copy content
- Access the Admin interface and click the Communications tab above the search field.
- Navigate to Messages > List.
- Create a message or edit an existing one.
- On the Design Message tab, click Add Content and add any images and text, and then format your content (if there's existing content you want to copy instead, simply click to select it).
- Click to select the content you want to copy and click the Copy Layout icon.
Message Designer creates a copy of the content in the same MCA, but the copy does not inherit the Name.
You can now edit the copy to customize it.
NOTE: When your MCA contains its maximum number of content layouts, you cannot copy any additional content (the layout headers no longer display the Copy Layout icon until you delete an existing one).
Move copied content
You can drag and drop a copied content layout into a different MCA.
Limitations
Moving copied content layouts is simple and useful, but keep the following limitations in mind:
- You can move copied content from one MCA to another only if the destination MCA supports the content type. For example, you cannot move a Text with Headline content type into an MCA that supports only Image with Text content types.
- You cannot move a copied content layout into an MCA that is at its maximum number of content.
Copy content in Templates
You can copy MCAs in Template Designer as well.
- Doing so creates a new MCA within the same section.
- The new MAC inherits the properties (Maximum Content Layouts, Maximum Columns, and Allowed Content Types) of the MCA that was copied.
- You must specify a unique name for the new MCA.
