- Describes the undo and redo functionalities, and their limitations, on the Design tab of the Designers.
- Explains why manually saving as you work is recommended.
Template Designer and Message Designer have built-in editing features that help you work more efficiently: auto-save and undo/redo.
Auto-Save
By default, templates and messages are automatically saved every 60 seconds. This auto-save action temporarily disables the Save button; it is re-enabled when subsequent changes are made.
- The image below shows the Save button in its "disabled" state. Note that it is now labeled Saved, indicating that a save action has occurred and that there haven't been any changes since then.
- Any subsequent save actions (automatic or manual) overwrite the previously saved version of the current template or message.
- Any errors on the page that prevent a manual save also prevent the scheduled auto-save from occurring.
- If you click Save to do a manual save and there are errors, an error message displays, such as that shown below.
Undo and Redo
Both of the Designers have Undo and Redo buttons on their respective Design tab so that you can easily manage recent editing actions (without necessarily having to remember what you've done).
The buttons are in the upper right of the Design tab only, and their functionality is applicable to actions on that tab only.
- You cannot undo or redo recent actions on the Properties, Review Message, or Send Message tabs.
- These buttons are not available for Text Versions of messages.
- You can undo and redo a number of editing actions, such as:
- Add, move, and delete a Layout/Story.
- Change any property in the Properties panel.
- Change any Template Theme menu properties.
NOTE: The undo and redo functionality has a "history" that stores up to 50 of the latest actions. If you navigate away from the Designer in which you're working, that history is lost.
Best practice: stop, review, and save
The auto-save functionality helps to ensure that your designing and editing work is periodically preserved.
However, we also recommend that you periodically stop, review your work, and manually save the current version of your template or message.
