Rich Text Editor is the text editor that is integrated into our template and message designers. It displays whenever you work with a text-based Content block:
- creating and editing templates in Template Designer and
- creating and editing messages in Message Designer.
You can use the features and options in Rich Text Editor to format the text of your templates and messages in order to truly customize your content.
Toolbar options
Use the toolbar options to format your text. The options are described in the table from left to right in the image.
Button | Description |
---|---|
Bold | Click to apply bold to the selected text. |
Italic | Click to apply italic to the selected text. |
Underline | Click to apply underline to the selected text. |
Text Color | Customize the color of the selected text in three ways: a color picker, hex codes, or RGB.
NOTE: When entering a hex number, do not include the #. |
Insert/Edit Hyperlink | Click to configure the highlighted text as a hyperlink. Use the fields on the dialog to configure your hyperlink.
NOTE: The options that display depend on the hyperlink type that you select. The various types are described in Hyperlinks in Messages (Thrive Communications). |
Date Codes | Click to add a Date Code to your message. Click the dropdown to select your language/region preferences. When ready, click Insert for the desired date code.
The benefit of Date Codes is they automatically update to the current date when a message is sent. |
Personalization | Click to add a Personalization field to your message or template. In the dialog, use the dropdown to select a Personalization Type and list of available Personalization fields associated with it. All Personalization fields are added to the Rich Text Editor with a blue highlight; this highlight does not appear in the template or message itself.
You can select from the following Personalization types:
Personalization fields will automatically be personalized when the email is sent. For example, if you add the First Name field, it'll automatically transform into each recipient's first name, pulled from their profile. |
Superscript | Makes the selected text appear smaller and above the surrounding text. |
Subscript | Makes the selected text appear smaller and below the surrounding text. |
Align Left/Center/Right | Left, center, or right align the paragraph that the cursor is in. |
Text Type | Click the dropdown to select the text type (Header 1-3, Sub-Heading 1-3, or Standard Text 1-3). |
Numbers and Bullets | Click these icons to create numbered or bulleted single-line items or multi-line lists of the current paragraph. Rich Text Editor supports three preset levels that you create via the Tab key, as shown below.

Font Family | Use to change the default font family of your message moving forward or to target-change specific text by highlighting it first. |
Font Size | Use to change the default font size of your text moving forward or to target-change specific text by highlighting it first (up to 50px). |
Windowed mode
If you need more "real estate" to work, click the double arrow icon at the bottom right to pop out the editor.
- Move the window around by dragging the header bar.
- Enlarge the workspace by dragging the bottom right corner (called out by the arrow in the image below).
