The Quick Links widget is a great way to feature links to important and noteworthy content. This content could be in various places across your Higher Logic site or on external pages, such as your organization's web site. And you can use more than one Quick Links widget to feature different links.
Regardless of where or what the content is, if you want to promote it and can easily link to it, this widget is ideal. The Quick Links widget can be added to any community page and it can be configured uniquely for each instance.
This article describes:
- adding the widget to a page;
- adding links to the widget;
- how to simultaneously delete all links from the widget;
- the optional Syndicate Content setting and how it affects the widget's content.
Add the widget to a page
You can add this widget to any page across your site via Page Designer.
TIP: Each Quick Links widget is a unique and independent instance of the widget. You can add several of these widgets across your community's pages; each widget has to be individually added in Page Designer and then individually configured on the "front end." You can, however, syndicate content from a widget on the site Home page to have its content shared across all Quick Links widgets on your Higher Logic site, as described in Syndicate Content, below.
NOTE: This widget does not have any configuration parameters in Page Designer. The widget is configured on the "front end" of your site. Refer to the next section, Configure the widget's links, to learn how to configure this widget and manage its content.
- Navigate to the page you'd like to add the widget to.
- In the Admin Toolbar, click (or right click for a new tab) Edit Page to edit the page in Page Designer.
- On the Build tab, scroll down to the Widget section and type "quick links" in the search field.
- Drag and drop the Quick Links widget to the canvas and position it where you want it on the page.
- With the widget selected on the canvas, click the Properties tab.
- Configure the properties and pay special attention to the Name or Title field and the View Permissions (to control who can view it).
TIP: Refer to Syndicate Content, below, for information on how to add a dedicated Quick Links widget to a Community Home page to showcase community-specific content.
- Click Publish at the bottom of the page to save your changes and make the page live.
After you've added the widget to the page, return to the "front end" page to add and configure the links that the widget will display.
Configure the widget's links
Each Quick Links widget has an ellipsis icon at the top. Click this to manage (edit, delete) the widget's links:
Edit the links
Link settings
The Link title and Link destination settings are required.
NOTE: The Icon setting is not indicated as a required field because, by default, the link icon is automatically applied to each newly added link, but it can be changed.
Setting | Description |
---|---|
Link title | Specify a label (e.g., Communities) for this Quick Link. This should give the user some idea of where they will be taken when they click the link. |
Link destination | Specify where users are taken when they click the link. This can be a page code or a full, valid URL, including "https://" where appropriate.
TIP: Check the Open in new window box to open the linked page in a new tab while preserving the current community page (recommended). |
Icon | Click the Icon dropdown to select from a pop-up library of SVG icons. Use the search field at the top to locate icons by name. Click the All Icons tab (bottom right) to view all icons.
Use the Icon Color and Icon Background Color fields to customize the icon. When choosing a color, you can enter a hex code, RGB numbers, or use the gradient sliders to get the color you want. In addition, you can leverage the transparency slider to control the level of transparency. |
TIP: As you configure the widget, the preview on the right updates in real time so that you can easily review how the the Link title and the Icon and its properties display.
Manage the widget links
Let's switch gears and focus on how to manage the links of this widget.
You can add an unlimited number of links but you should limit the number to prevent the widget being too large on the page.
- Add - Click + Add another link to add a quick link.
- Access - Click a link title to access its configuration section; click again to collapse it.
- Remove - Click Remove link while in a configuration section to delete that link.
- Arrange - Click and hold a link to drag it to a different position in the list.
Delete all widget content
While you can edit a Quick Links widget to make small adjustments, like updating a link title, link destination, or icon, you can also completely wipe all content at once.
In instances where you want to start from scratch, this enables you to do so with the click of a button rather than having to delete content line by line.
IMPORTANT: This action cannot be undone. Because content is stored directly in the widget, make sure you won't lose any important URLs you may not otherwise have easy access to.
To wipe all content from a Quick Links widget:
- Click the widget's dropdown, followed by Delete.
Syndicate Content
By default, all communities share a single, syndicated site Home page. However, the Syndicate Content setting makes it possible for each Community Home page across your Higher Logic site to have its own ("standalone") Quick Links widget.
Each "standalone" Quick Links widget features content that is specific to that community, and Admins can set which links to include in the widget, per community.
EXAMPLE: You could have a "mentoring" quick link, but not a "volunteer" quick link, display in the widget on one Community Home page, and have the reverse in the widget on a different Community Home page.
Understand Syndicate Content settings
This section explains the distinction between the Yes and No settings.
WARNING: Existing content may be lost when switching this parameter value.

- This setting is unique to this instance of the Quick Links widget; it does not impact other Quick Links widgets across your site.
