Higher Logic provides dozens of widgets that you can use to:
- modernize the look of your community pages,
- enhance the usefulness of your site, and
- increase member engagement.
In this article, we'll focus on our search-based widgets.
Access the widgets
You'll be able to add, edit, and remove widgets when editing one of your community's pages. To edit a page:
- Navigate to the page you want to update and click Edit Page on the Admin Toolbar (or right click for a new tab). Alternatively, you can click Edit Navigation to access the CMS and your community's complete page list, from which you can access and edit any page.
- Editing a page is accomplished with Page Designer. Click the Build tab and scroll down to the Widget section.
- Use the Category dropdown and/or the search field to more quickly find a specific widget.
- Widgets are grouped and accessible from their own category in the dropdown.
- Select the All category to view the complete list of widgets; click Search to view the widgets discussed in this article.
- As you add and configure widgets (see Build Page Layout and Content), it's a good idea to occasionally click Save.
- After you add widgets to your community, be sure to click Publish.
Faceted Search
You can add the Faceted Search widget to any page across your site, and with its customization options allowing you to control what content is queried, it can provide a tailored search to fit your needs.
- You can configure the type of content this widget will return in search results, allowing you to customize each Faceted Search widget to meet the needs of specific types of pages. For example, if you placed this widget on a volunteer-oriented page, you could configure the widget to only display search results for volunteer opportunities.
- The benefit of faceted search is it allows users to filter their search results by content type (e.g., blogs), and then fine-tune those results even further (e.g., remove results associated to blog comments or only show results from blogs created in the last week).
Search (old)
Displays a search field allowing users to search for content across your site.
NOTE: This widget is no longer being supported or enhanced. While it works, we recommend using the newer Faceted Search widget, described above.
