For many customers with an integrated (AMS-managed) community, Higher Logic pulls users' membership-renewal dates from their AMS or CRM database. Super Admins can use this data to display a "membership renewal" alert to their users.
Higher Logic can pull users' membership-renewal data from the integration databases that are listed in Higher Logic Thrive Community Integrations - List.
NOTE: If your provider isn't listed, create a case and inquire whether a customization is possible, and supply a sample member record's email address and expiration date.
Access the Membership Alerts page
You can configure these membership-renewal alerts on the Membership Alerts page:
- In the Admin Toolbar, click Admin.
- Navigate to Automation > Membership Alerts.
This page has two sections: Settings and Display / Design.
Manage alert settings
The upper portion of the page, Settings, is where you manage expiration notifications (membership alerts) and AMS membership-renewal display options. Use the Yes/No toggle for each option to enable/disable it. Some options have sub-options that display when set to Yes.
The first option controls whether the membership-renewal alert is enabled/disabled. If enabled, it's displayed in your site's header. Configure the alert using the remaining options.
- If enabled, do you want to display the alert before the membership-expiration date? If Yes:
- Set how many days before the expiration date the alert should display.
- Specify the text that you want the alert to display in the Membership Renewal widget. - If enabled, you can also choose to display the alert after the membership-expiration date. If Yes:
- Set how many days after the expiration date to wait before displaying the alert.
- Specify the text that you want the alert to display in the Membership Renewal widget.
NOTE: For the before and after display options above:
- The default text will be used if you do not specify a custom message.
- The expiration date will be automatically appended to your custom text.
- Do you want to provide a link (or button) that users can click to navigate to the AMS renewal page? If Yes:
- Specify the URL of the AMS membership-renewal page in the correct format.
- Accept the default text or specify the text for the link or button.
- Display the link (or button) before the membership-expiration date? If Yes, specify the number of days.
- Display the link (or button) after the expiration date? If Yes, specify the number of days.
- Display the expiration notification to Super Admins who are viewing a user's profile. (This assumes that the Membership Renewal widget is set to show on the profile.)
TIP: If you change any of the settings in this section, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
Choose an alert design
In this section, you can choose which layout to apply to the Membership Renewal widget. These simple layouts mostly determine whether the alert has a border and/or background color to make it stand out. If you make a change, be sure to click Save.
Where alerts display
The membership alert can display in two places:
- your site's header, so it shows on every page,
- and/or user profiles.
Where it will display depends on your configured settings (refer to the Manage Alert settings section above) and the Higher Logic model you license.
Site header
- This alert option is only available to non-Thrive Community customers.
User profile
- The user profile alert is available to both Thrive and non-Thrive Community customers.
