The Web Tracking feature in your Higher Logic Thrive Marketing Professional (Thrive Marketing Professional) account makes it possible for you to:
- track web-based activity that occurs on domains that you have configured (such as your website),
- generate reports on the data that are collected, and
- use those data in various ways within your Thrive Marketing Professional account.
You can track activity and generate reports based on:
- Users' activities, such as page views, browsers used, and geographic location in order to target your email messages with greater precision for better engagement.
- Interactions, such as video views and whitepaper downloads in order to easily follow up with contacts who've performed the tracked actions on your site.
- Purchases, such as memberships and branded clothing so that you can more easily create "thank you" email messages and create Target Groups that feed your campaigns.
NOTE: This article assumes that someone in your account has already set up the domains that you want to track and added the appropriate tracking codes (Page, Interaction, and/or Purchase) to the necessary pages on those domains.
Tracking Users
Web Tracking tracks known users. A contact — to whom you send a message from your Thrive Marketing Professional account — becomes a "known user" by clicking a link in one of your email messages and visiting your tracked domain; that domain then automatically installs a cookie on that contact's browser.
- As a "known user," there is now a record of how that contact interacts with your site.
You can use the tracked data to build Target Groups (the Target button above the table) that are based on contacts' visits and activities on the web pages of your tracked domain.
Users report data
The Users tab of the Web Tracking Report displays only if "known users" have visited a tracked page within the specified time frame.
Tracking Interactions
Whenever a known user visits your site and interacts with its content, that activity is tracked by and reported to your Thrive Marketing Professional account.
NOTE: When deciding which interactions to track, consider that tracking too many interactions could make the report data unwieldy and difficult to use effectively.
Interactions report data
The Interactions tab of the Web Tracking Report displays only if "known users" have interacted with tracked content within the specified time frame.
Tracking Purchases
Whenever a known user makes a purchase on your site, that action is tracked by and reported to your Thrive Marketing Professional account.
Having a record of who purchased what makes it easier for you to:
- create "thank you" and and other types of follow-up messages (e.g., product satisfaction) and
- create Target Groups to feed your campaigns.
Purchases report data
The Purchases tab of the Web Tracking Report displays only if "known users" have purchased a tracked item within the specified time frame.
