In Higher Logic Community sites, Event Manager is an optional module that you can license in order to access additional events-based options and functionality.
NOTE: Event Manager is included as a core module, and is pre-provisioned, in all Higher Logic Thrive Community sites.
Benefits of Event Manager
With Event Manager, you can create a wider variety of types of events for your organization, such as:
- webinars that only require registrants to RSVP and
- large, multi-day conferences with multiple sessions and add-on activities.
For Full Registration and Simple Registration events that require payment, you can:
- configure one of three site-wide Payment Providers to process your registrants' payments.
- create, manage, and apply custom Discount Codes for some of the registrants (such as members and the "early-birds").
- create, manage, and apply classifications of attendees (Registrant Classes) and speakers (Presenter Roles).
Do I have Event Manager?
It's easy to determine whether Event Manager is licensed in your account.
- Access the Admin interface and navigate to Events > Types.
- On the Event Types page, click the Add button in the upper right.
- On the "Add" dialog, scroll down to the Properties section and click the Registration Process dropdown.
- If only the No registration and Link to External Registration System options display, Event Manager is not active in your account.
- If the dropdown displays the two options above, PLUS the RSVP Only, Full, and Simple options, Event Manager is active in your account.
NOTE: If you do not have Event Manager and would like more information or would like to license it, create a case with Higher Logic Support and they will route your request to the appropriate team.
Event Types and registration processes
Every event in your Higher Logic community has to be based on an Event Type. Event Types:
- are created in each community account by Super Admins;
- are "templates" for the events that are created in your community site;
- define which "building blocks" (e.g., settings, options, features) are available for the events that are based on them; and
- can vary in degree of complexity and, resultingly, so do the events that are based on them.
For example, a monthly webinar that requires only that attendees RSVP is much less complex and involves far less configuration than a multi-day event with a full agenda of activities, such as breakout sessions, a meet-&-greet luncheon, and other "add-ons."

Registration processes
When you create an event, one of the most important settings is the Registration Process. The registration process is based on an Event Type and it determines the complexity of the event and which features are available for the event.
You can choose one of five registration processes in when creating an Event Manager event.
| Registration Process | Description |
|---|---|
| No Registration | For events you simply want to add to your Event Calendar to keep your members aware of your organization's upcoming events. See Create a No Registration Event. |
| Link to External Registration System | For events with registration that is handled by a third-party provider. You provide the link to the third-party provider's system for registrants. See Create an External Registration Event. |
| RSVP Only | For events that do not require formal registration (or payment) but which do require registrants to reserve a spot via RSVP. This enables a registrant roster to track event details. Only users who have an account on your site can RSVP. See Create an RSVP Only Event. |
| Simple Registration | For events that require formal registration and/or payment but which do not have sessions and registration add-ons. Often, simple member/non-member pricing is used for this type of registration, but more complex pricing can be set up. See Create a Simple Registration Event. |
| Full Registration | For large, multi-day events (e.g., an annual conference) to which you can add event sessions and include registration add-ons. See Create a Full Registration Event. |

Write activities to an AMS/CRM
If your Higher Logic community site is integrated with a third-party AMS/CRM database, some Events-based activities can be written to that database during the standard activity-sync process.
- Navigate to Settings > External Content > Activity Sync in the Admin interface to manage writing Events-based activities to your integrated database on the Subscriptions tab.
To learn about the activity-sync process, see Member Activity Sync.
