Personalization Target Groups in your account
Personalization Target Groups let you focus a message based on your contacts' personal information.
The personal information can be any personal detail that you have gathered about your contacts, such as their organization, their city of residence, and their favorite color.
Personalization Target Groups are built from specific Personal Info fields (see Personal Info Fields to learn more).
Create a Personalization Target Group
The example in this section is based on the following:
- We've built profile fields for the contacts in the sample set below.
- We now want to build a Personalization Target Group for the contacts who have a value of ABC for the Company field.
- Access the Admin interface.
- Navigate to Contacts > Groups.
- Click Create.
- Select Personalization from the dropdown and click Create.
- Specify a Name for the Target Group and then click the dropdown to select a folder.
- Click Next.
- Click the Personalization Fields dropdown and select a field. The page expands and displays the additional settings:
- Select one type from the Target Type column for the selected Personalization Field. You can target contact records that:
- do not have a value;
- have any value;
- have a specific value that you specify (refer to Wild cards in values, below);
- have a value less than, greater than, or equal to the value that you specify (refer to Wild cards in values, below); or
- a value that is within or outside of a range of values that you specify (refer to Wild cards in values, below).
- In the Target Values column, specify your target values for the Values or Ranges settings.
- Click Update to create your Personalization Target Group.
Wild cards in values
You can use the percent sign (%) as a "wild card" in your values.
Wild cards will account for variations within the Personalization Field.
How it works...
If you specify "ABC%" in the Target Values field, the Target Group will include all variations, such as:
- "ABC"
- "ABC Association"
- "ABC Incorporated"
- ...and so on.
You can position the wild card:
- after the value: ABC%
- before the value: %ABC
- before and after the value (refer to the note below): %ABC%
Each of these positions could include very different results.
NOTE: When using the wild card before and after the value: if the value exists for multiple entries (such as, "The ABC Association" and "ABCO Inc."), the Target Group will capture both values.
