The Global Settings page for Smart Campaigns is where you establish the following default information used across all Smart Campaign emails:
- from and reply to email addresses,
- your company's mailing address,
- an unsubscribe link,
- a logo,
- and the global send time and scheduling for when Smart Campaign emails are sent.
Before you can activate or use Smart Campaigns, you must complete the Global Settings page. This ensures compliance (e.g., CAN-SPAM) and consistent branding across all of your Smart Campaigns.
Access Global Settings
- Access the Admin interface and click the Communications tab above the search field.
- Navigate to Campaigns > Smart Campaigns > Global Settings.
This page's settings are grouped into four tabs: Inbox Details, Footer, Logo, and Scheduling. Each tab is discussed below.
Inbox Details
In this section, provide the from name, from email address, and reply to email address that will serve as the default addresses for all of your Smart Campaigns. If needed, these defaults can be overridden for individual campaigns on their respective details pages, if specific campaigns require unique addresses.
- (Friendly) From Name - The display name that appears as the default sender (e.g., “Joanna”).
- From Email Address - The default sender email address for all Smart Campaign messages (e.g., info@higherlogic.com).
- Reply to Email Address - The default email address where responses should be sent (e.g., replyto@higherlogic.com).
Footer
The Footer tab includes two sections: Address and Unsubscribe Link.
Address
Per CAN-SPAM regulations, every email must include your organization’s physical mailing address. The information provided here will display in the footer of all Smart Campaigns emails.
In this section, you can provide the following address information for your company:
- Company Name
- Street Address
- Address Line 2 (optional)
- City
- State/Province/Region
- Postal Code
- Country
- Phone Number
Unsubscribe Link
All emails must provide recipients a way to globally unsubscribe from your company's email messages.
NOTE: These campaigns are specifically designed for organizations who want to target their Online Community members. With this context in mind, it's important to note that users who globally unsubscribe via a Smart Campaigns email are only unsubscribed in Higher Logic Thrive Communications; they will not be unsubscribed in their Online Community.
All Smart Campaign emails include a global unsubscribe option and an opt-out option:
- The Unsubscribe link globally unsubscribes them from all messages from your account.
- The Manage Email Preferences link navigates them to the Email Preferences page of their Online Community profile; from here, they can toggle off the Community Emails option to opt-out of future Smart Campaign messages.
NOTE: Keep the following in mind regarding the Community Emails option in Online Community. Toggling it off means users will no longer receive other notifications in their Online Community associated with this category (e.g., Automation Rule emails).
With Smart Campaigns, you can power your global unsubscribes in two ways:
- a landing page hosted by Higher Logic
- a custom external link, if you manage unsubscribes outside of Higher Logic
Landing pages
Choose Landing Page to power your global unsubscribes via active landing pages pulled from your Landing Pages admin page in Thrive Marketing Professional or Thrive Communications.
By default, your account’s default unsubscribe landing page is selected in the dropdown, but you can pick any active landing page suitable for these messages.
External unsubscribe
Select the External link option to use your own unsubscribe URL; enter the full page URL in the provided field.
Logo
You can upload a logo to be displayed at the top of each Smart Campaign email for branding consistency. Currently, the interface only allows you to upload an image; no image management tools are available (e.g., resizing/cropping).
- Recommended image size is around 200 x 200 pixels
- Recommended image formats: JPG and PNG.

Let's look an example message to highlight where each set of information displays. Reference the sections above to their location in the image below.
Scheduling
On the Scheduling tab, you can configure global send time and scheduling to precisely control when Smart Campaign emails are sent across your organization. These settings allow you to deliver only on selected business days and at preferred hours to enhance engagement, member experience, and brand image.
NOTE: These scheduling settings apply to ALL of your Smart Campaign emails; there is no way to set a different schedule for an individual campaign.
Configure the following options to set your preferred delivery schedule:
- Send Time: Click the clock icon and select your desired send time (options are in increments of 15 minutes).
- Days of the Week: Click the dropdown to view a list of each day of the week; check and uncheck the boxes to set which days emails can be sent.
- Timezone: Click the dropdown and select your default regional preference.
When a contact qualifies to receive a campaign email, the system ensures emails are sent according to these global day and time constraints, with proper timezone conversions for localized accuracy.
