Super Admins, Community Admins, Community Moderators, and anyone else who should be notified can receive email notifications when new user-created content hits the Moderation Queue. This helps put in place a system that ensures all new moderated content across your communities is promptly reviewed, and then approved or rejected.
Super Admins can enable moderation for the following types of user-created content.
- Discussion posts (including Q&A)
- Library entries (titles and descriptions)
- Blog posts
- Ideation posts
Access Moderation settings
- In the Admin Toolbar, click Admin.
- Navigate to Community > Moderation > Settings.
There are several sections on this page in which you manage what happens after a user creates new content.
Contributor Settings
Use these settings to manage contribution limits per-user and for new (i.e., first-time) contributors.
- Limit Contribution Frequency - You can specify a site-wide per-user maximum for the number of contributions that are allowed in a specified time period. This is more often used to mitigate spam attempts in open communities where membership is not vetted or managed in a database.
NOTE: This setting is enabled by default and limited to 10 contributions in 5 minutes. Super Admin contributions are excluded from this threshold.
- Moderate New Contributors - You can set a threshold for the number of contributions (by new contributors only) that must be approved by an admin. After the threshold has been met, that contributor can freely contribute (without admin approval) in areas that are not fully moderated. This setting is applicable to all pre-approval contributions.
NOTE: This setting is off by default.
Delivery Schedule
This is where you decide when notifications about moderated content are sent to the admins indicated in the remaining sections below.
Set whether to send notifications at specified intervals or at a specified time of the day.
- Use the Schedule Type menu to select whether to send notifications at a set Interval (e.g., every two hours) or at a specific time of day (e.g., every day at 9 am).
TIP: Choose an option that makes sense for the majority of communities across your site. For example, if you have several high-traffic communities that are moderated, you may want to have notifications sent at an interval of two hours; this ensures content can be approved (or rejected) and made available in a timely fashion.
Communities
Use this section to indicate the Community Admins and Community Moderations (and other users) to be notified when new user-created content is added to the moderation queue. You can also specify overrides to these default settings.
NOTE: These default settings will be applicable to all communities.
- Send notifications to Community Admins and Community Moderators - Notifications will be sent to ALL Community Admins and Community Moderators across your site.
- Send notifications to other users - Notifications will be sent to select individuals; type their email addresses in the field in a comma-separated list, as shown below.
- Add community override(s) - Click the link and use the dialogs to apply unique notification settings for individual communities. This option provides more granular control to notify specific admins for specific communities.
Defaults & Overrides example
You select the Admins and Moderators option and you specify an admin to be notified, by default, for all communities when new user-created content hits the moderation queue.
For one community, Martin Colony Chapter, you also want to notify John Major and Mary Minor.
Use the Add community override(s) option to select the community and specify these contacts.
Now, when new user-created content hits the moderation queue for Martin Colony Chapter, John and Mary will be notified in addition to those set as the defaults.
Stand-alone Libraries
Use this section to set the notifications defaults for when entries for stand-alone Libraries hit the moderation queue. You can also specify overrides to these default settings.
NOTE: These default settings will be applicable to all stand-alone Libraries.
- Send notifications to these users - Notifications will be sent to select individuals; type their email addresses in the field.
- Add library override(s) - Click the link and use the dialogs to apply separate notifications settings for stand-alone Libraries. You can also include individual contacts (by email address) in these overrides.
NOTE: Community Admins cannot manage stand-alone Library moderation queues because they are not associated to a community.
Defaults & Overrides example
You specify the contacts who are to be notified, by default, for all stand-alone Libraries when Library entries hit the moderation queue.
For one Library, Articles, you also want to notify your account's reader-editor.
Use the Add library override(s) option to select the Library and specify the contact.
Now, when there are new Library entries in the moderation queue for the Articles library, the reader-editor will be notified in addition to those set as the defaults.
Click Save to set your notifications settings.
Concepts (Ideation)
Here, you can decide who will receive an email notification about Ideation submissions that are moderated and go in to the queue.
- Send notifications to these users - Notifications will be sent to select individuals; type their email addresses in the field.
NOTE: Community Admins cannot manage Ideation moderation queues because they are not associated to a community.
