Higher Logic Thrive Marketing Professional (Thrive Marketing Professional) makes it easy for you to customize the properties of your templates. When creating or editing a template, click Design > Theme to access the Template Theme panel.
NOTE: The properties that you set on the Theme tab are unique to the template that you set them for.
Template theme notes
You can preserve the template's theme settings (and the look of the template) by checking the Prevent style edits in message box. This limits which aspects of the template can be changed in individual messages. See the Lock Styles section in Lock a Template.
Click the Element dropdown to choose a template property to customize.
Template Width
The Template Width lets you set high-level properties for your template. These properties define the page appearance for your template.
- Template Width - Click the dropdown list to select a width for the template (between 600-700 pixels in increments of 10 pixels).
- Padding - Click the dropdown list to select the internal padding for the template (between 0-30 pixels).
Message Content
The Message Content properties set the spacing between stories and columns in your template.
- Spacing Between Stories - Click the dropdown to set the height of the vertical spacing between message content areas (between 0-50 pixels).
- Spacing Between Columns - Click the dropdown to set the width of the horizontal spacing between message content areas (between 0-50 pixels).
Background
You can use the Background properties to set background colors for your template. You can also select an image to display as the background.

- Click anywhere in the field to open a color picker and select a color. The selected color is applied to the body of the template (and to the body of any messages built on it), as shown below.

- select a stored image,
- upload an image, or
- link to an external image.
After selecting an image, you can click:
- Choose another image, to do so,
- Edit Image (only when one of Your Images is selected), which opens the Image Editor, and
- Delete Image, which removes the image from the work space.
Background image notes & recommendations
Background images can be included in new and existing templates that were created from the Blank Canvas.
- This feature is not available for templates that were downloaded from the Template Gallery.
The image that you choose will be "tiled" by default in the background. This means that it will be repeatedly replicated in order to fill the entire space (like tiles on a floor).
- We recommend that you use an image that fills the entire background.
- Consider an image that is at least 800 pixels wide and isn't too visually "busy."
The image that you choose is applied at the template level.
- The background image is applied to all messages that are based on the template.
- The background image cannot be managed or customized per message.
TIP: Make sure that the background image and the message content are mutually suitable for one another.
Background images are not supported in:
- Office 365 (Windows),
- Outlook 2013, 2016, and 2019, and
- Windows 10 Mail.
NOTE: If a message is opened in one of these Microsoft email clients, the background image will not display. The space will be filled by the color that is specified in the Template Background property.
Text
The Text properties allows you to customize the properties of the default set of text styles. These properties are modified in the text properties editor.
First, select one of the following text styles to modify.
- Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3
- Sub-Heading 1, Sub-Heading 2, Sub-Heading 3
- Standard Text 1, Standard Text 2, Standard Text 3
TIP: The Standard Text styles are available for captions when inserting images (see Image/Logo Properties Editor). If you want to have a custom style for image captions, select one of these styles and then customize it for your captions.
Use the fields on the right to set the style's properties:
- Text Color - Click to open a color picker and select a text color.
- Font Family - Click to select a font family. Font families render sequentially; if one font fails in an email client, the next font in the sequence will be used. Learn more about Custom Font Families.
- Font Size - Click to select a font size (8-50 pixels)
- Font Weight - Select either normal or bold font.
- Line Height - Select the line space (1 to 2 ems).
To attempt to hyphenate words in your message, check the Attempt to hyphenate words in sent message checkbox. See Hyphenation in Template Themes for details.
NOTE: If text properties are not defined in a layout, the layout uses the Standard Text 1 for the text type. Additionally, that text type cannot be modified if the template has been "locked" (see Lock a Template).
Hyperlinks
These properties affect the hyperlinks in your text fields.
- Text Color - If checked, hyperlinks use the paragraph text color. Uncheck to select a new color for your hyperlinks.

- Text Decoration - Select either none (no decoration) or underlined.
