Footers are a common location for contact information, social media links, and unsubscribe links in your messages. Template Designer makes it easy to create professional looking footers.
Adding a Footer
From the Design > Build tab, expand the Footer category and drag and drop one of the many footer types onto the canvas.
Top-Level Properties
You can set the following top-level properties for all footer types:
NOTE: To access these properties, click the top row of a footer, as highlighted below.
- Use Default Background - If checked, your footer uses the background color set in the Theme menu. If unchecked, you can use the color picker to select a unique color for the layout’s background.
- Border - If checked, your footer applies a border with several possible settings.
- Border Style - Click the dropdown to select a solid, dashed, or dotted border.
- Border Size - Click the dropdown to set the border size in pixels (1-10).
- Border Color - Click to use the color picker to select a unique color for the layout’s border.
- Apply Border To - Check the corresponding checkbox for each side (top, bottom, left, and right) that uses the border.
- Banner - Check to extend your footer to the edges of the message body.
- Padding - Click the dropdown list to set the padding around your footer (0-30 pixels).
- Apply Padding To - Check the corresponding checkbox for each side (top, bottom, left, and right) that applies padding.
- Banded Background - Click the icon that represents your desired “banding” effect.
- Select Default to keep your layout within the message body.
- Select Banded to extend your layout to the edges of the page.
- Vertical Align - Click the dropdown list to set a vertical alignment option (top, middle, or bottom).
Additionally, you can set the text properties for each area within your footer. See Rich Text Editor for additional information about how to use this editor.
Default Footers
All footers are located under the Default Footers menu. There are three default footers that you can add to your template: Contact with Social Icons, Centered Contact with Social Icons, and Contact Information.
Some footers have default, built-in sections that cannot be deleted from within the footer, but have the following editable elements.
- Use Default Background
- Border
- Padding
- Vertical Align
Footer Placeholders
All footers contain placeholders for:
- Company Name
- Address
- Phone Number
- Unsubscribe Link
Contact with Social Icons
This footer (built in a two-column section) contains a text area and a social icon area.
The social sharing icons appear in a subsection area that can be formatted like a regular icon set layout.
Centered Contact with Social Icons
This footer contains a subsection for social sharing icons and a text area immediately below it. The text area is centered by default.

Contact Information
This footer contains a text area only (the text area is centered by default).
NOTE: This footer layout does not use built-in sections.
