In this article, you'll learn about the pasting options available in the HTML Editor.
Paste text with formatting
When pasting text from an external source into your stories, it's best to do so without any of its native formatting applied to it. Why? To reduce rendering issues with the HTML in your subscribers' inboxes. If you want to paste content with the formatting intact, read on to learn the best way to do so.
Notes
- Images will not paste into the editor. Images must be uploaded into the Asset Manager and inserted into the editor.
- Basic HTML elements will paste into the editor. These elements include tables, bold or italic text, hyperlinks, paragraphs, and lists.
- Basic styling will paste into the editor. These style attributes include font, font color, font size, and background color.
Steps
- Insert a 1x1 table.
- Highlight the text you want to copy, and press CTRL+C.
- In the desired location of your story, press CTRL+V to paste the content into the editor. You'll notice the formatting is retained.
Paste content as plain text
When pasting text from another source into your stories, it's best to do so without any of its native formatting applied to it. Why? To reduce rendering issues with the HTML in your subscribers' inboxes.
With this in mind, it's common to develop content outside of Higher Logic Thrive Marketing Professional (Thrive Marketing Professional), or receive content from other contributors as an email attachment. In order to have the best control over the formatting and layout, it's best to paste it into your story as plain text and then use the editor to apply formatting and styling.
NOTE: If possible, ask your content creators to forego any formatting and just focus on the words. When you're working in a multi-contributor team structure, work toward a "less is more" approach, which helps streamline creating, editing, importing to Thrive Marketing Professional, and subsequent formatting.
Steps
- Highlight the text you want to copy, and press CTRL+C.
- Click the Paste as Text button in the toolbar.
- Click Ok in the resulting pop-up.
- In the desired location of your story, press CTRL+V to paste the content into the editor. You'll notice the native formatting is removed and only plain text is pasted.
- After pasting is complete, select the Paste as Text button again. The button will revert to its light gray background indicating that it's not active.
- At this point, use the editor's available formatting options to format your content.
