This article describes the four tabs that you use to create, design, test, and activate a Landing Page.
The tabs display below the page title and remain accessible regardless of which tab you're on. Also, each tab has a hover-over description of what can be done on that tab, as shown above for the Mobile tab.
TIP: Most of the work is done on the Design tab and its purpose is self-evident, but it's important to understand the purpose and function of the Mobile, Process, and Activate tabs as well. These tabs are somewhat dependent on the Design tab work, but they also have unique features that are integral to the Landing Page process.
Design tab
This tab is where you add the contents (via Items) of a Landing Page and then design its layout.
NOTE: When you're ready to start building a Landing Page, see Landing Pages Items for a detailed exploration of the Design tab — and how to add, configure, and manage Landing Page content Items and their properties.
Landing Page Items notes
As you add Items to the design canvas, you can manage them (e.g., move, delete, resize) to customize your Landing Page. The following table describes the options and how they function.
- These icons appear when you hover on an Item.
- These icons have the same functionality on all Items.
Icon | Function |
---|---|
Click the red X to delete the Item | |
Click the blue gear icon to access the Item's Properties dialog | |
Click and hold the green four-arrow icon to move the Item in any direction | |
Click and hold the two-headed arrow icon to adjust the width or the height of the box; click the resizer in the lower right to simultaneously adjust the width and height |
Collision detection
The design canvas has collision-detection functionality; as you move Items, the system detects other Items and prevents them sharing the same space.
If you click and drag an Item and then "drop" it on another Item, the dragged Item automatically returns to its original position to prevent overlapping. This also applies to groups of Items; they all return to their original positions.
TIP: This does not apply to the Accent Box item which, by design, displays behind other Items.
Grouping items
In Landing Page Designer, you can group multiple Items in order to move them simultaneously — as a unit — rather than having to move them individually.
TIP: Grouped Items have a red highlight around their borders.
You can group multiple Items in either of two ways.
- Click an Item to select it and then press and hold the Ctrl key as you click other Items to select them.
- To unselect Items: Press the Ctrl key again and click any Items that you want to remove from the group; the others remain grouped.
- Click on a blank spot on the canvas (near the Items you want to group) and drag the cursor such that it "touches" all of the Items that you want to group (refer to the Example below).
- The grouping will include any Item you come into contact with, so be sure to not "touch" an Item you don't want to include.
With multiple Items now functioning as a group, you can "grab" the green four-arrow icon on any of the grouped Items and drag the group to a different location...
...release the mouse button to place the group.
EXAMPLE: In the following image, five Items (a, b, c, d, and e) are touched by the cursor-drag operation, so these five are grouped and will move as a group. Note how only a portion of the "Monthly Newsletter" field (e) is touched but it IS included.
Mobile tab
The Mobile tab is where you arrange the Landing Page Items to optimize the page layout for displaying on mobile devices.
NOTE: Having a mobile version of a Landing Page is optional but recommended, due to the popularity of mobile devices.
TIP: Each Landing Page Item has a Show on Mobile Version check box on its Properties dialog that you can use to control whether that individual Item displays.
You cannot add Items on this tab; what displays is what has been designed on the Design tab and is set to Show on Mobile Version. However, on this tab, you can re-position and re-size the Items.
NOTE: You can click the STYLE tab to make changes to your default style settings. The changes you make while on this tab are automatically applied to the Items on the Design tab. To learn how to set default styles, see Style Your Landing Pages.
Reset option
The Reset Mobile button will reset the mobile version to its base state.
If you click this button, the Landing Page Items — on the mobile version — will be automatically re-positioned to the order in which they were added on the Design tab.
WARNING: Be absolutely sure that you want to do this before you click the button, especially if you have made design/layout changes that are specifically for the mobile version; those changes will be lost.
Process tab
The Process tab is where you configure what happens after a subscriber submits a Landing Page. You can automate several administrative tasks that you'd otherwise have to do manually.
The following table describes the Process tab options.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Change the user's profile | Click into the Auto-subscribe Interests field and in the dropdown, select any Interests that you want to assign to subscribers who submit the form. |
Add user to a campaign | Click into the Campaign field and, in the dropdown, select the Campaign that you want subscribers added to. This option will not display if there aren't any active Campaigns. |
Redirect the user | Click the dropdown to select a redirect option. After submitting the Landing Page, subscribers can be not redirected or redirected to another Landing Page, a web page, or a PDF file. TIP: Learn how to set up and test these options in Landing Pages Redirect Options. |
Auto-fill | Check the box to enable auto-completion of subscribers' information on the Landing Page if they access the Landing Page by clicking a link in a mailing. Refer to Auto-Fill notes, below, for additional information. This should be used for profile management only. NOTE: Do not enable this option if the Landing Page will be placed on your web site or if there is the possibility of the mailing being forwarded. If a subscriber forwards the mailing, their information goes with it and, if a "forward" recipient links to the Landing Page from the mailing and completes it with their own information, they could overwrite the subscriber's subscription and profile information. |
Auto-Focus | Check the box to disable the Landing Page from auto-scroll to input fields. You should disable this if this Landing Page will be used in an iFrame. |
Notify | Specify the email addresses of those who you want notified any time the Landing Page is submitted. You can also include a note to those recipients. |
Follow-up Mailing | You can follow up with subscribers who submit the Landing Page by sending any one of several existing mailings or creating a new one. |
Auto-Fill notes
When the auto-fill option is enabled and a subscriber accesses a Landing Page from a mailing, the Landing Page gets populated with that subscriber's information from your account database.
When the auto-fill option is not enabled, the subscriber arrives at a Landing Page that does not have subscriber information from your account database.
In either case, when subscribers complete and submit a Landing Page, there is the potential that they will modify their records in your account — even if they leave optional fields blank.
Further, if a subscriber deletes a pre-populated value (i.e., "empties" the field), their record in your account database will be updated accordingly. This means that there exists the possibility that previously-populated fields in your database could be "updated" to not having a value.
On-page alerts
When the auto-fill option is not enabled, and the subscriber leaves some blank fields, the following warning message displays:
- Yes submits the form.
- No returns the subscriber to the Landing Page to review and complete the blank fields.
If a subscriber tries to submit the Landing Page and required fields are blank, a warning message indicates that they must complete those fields before submitting.
Activate tab
The Activate tab is where you activate the Landing Page. You can also:
- Test the Landing Page to preview (in a new tab) how it displays on desktop and laptop devices.
- Test the mobile version of the Landing Page to preview (in a new tab) how it displays on mobile devices.
- Retrieve and copy the web address (URL) of the Landing Page.
- Retrieve and copy the code that you'll need if you plan to host the Landing Page in an iFrame; see Landing Pages Embedded in iFrames.
- Set this Landing Page as the default. Then, any mailings-based links to deactivated or archived Landing Pages (of the same type) will redirect to this Landing Page.
Validation errors
If there is a validation error on the Process tab (such as a missing URL or .PDF file), a message displays and indicates the error. Also, the URL, iFrame, Default, and Activate options are disabled.
NOTE: The URLs that are available on this tab can be either as links in your mailings or for embedding iFrames versions of the Landing Page.
